Four more companies have submitted their application to the Ministry of Finance's Betting Management System (SIGAP) to operate sports betting and online gaming in Brazil. They are Betfair, 7games.bet, Novibet and HiperBet (belonging to HiperCap).
With them, there are now 17 bookmakers that have applied for a federal license. In addition to the companies mentioned above, Betano, Superbet, Rei do Pitaco, Sportingbet, BIG Brasil, NSX (which controls the Betnacional, Mr Jack Bet y Pagbet), KTO, Betsson, F12 Bet, GaleraBet, Sportybet, EstrelaBet and Reals have also submitted applications.
Registration in SIGAP is mandatory for all companies wishing to operate in the regulated market. The Treasury has guaranteed that those who apply before August 20 will receive a response by the end of this year. If approved, they will be able to operate legally as of January 1, 2025, when all the rules of the regulation come into force.
Companies that apply after August 20 run the risk of starting 2025 without a federative license and being subject to sanctions. This is because it can take several months for the application to be approved.
In the last few days, the number of bookmakers requesting authorization has increased. This trend had been previously pointed out by the President of the National Association of Games and Lotteries (ANJL), Plínio Lemos Jorge.
"Many operators are already preparing their documentation and were just waiting for all the ordinances to be published by the SPA [Secretariat of Prizes and Bets] so that they can finalize the process knowing all the rules of the regulation. We are sure that in the coming days, we will see a significant increase in the number of bookmakers submitting their application," said Jorge, in a statement sent to the press at the beginning of the month.
