Macau’s full-time gaming workforce expanded by 1.6% in the second quarter, reaching 52,518 employees, even as the number of croupiers saw a decline of 0.9%, according to data from the city’s Statistics and Census Service.

The average monthly salary for casino employees increased by 8.2% year-on-year in June, reaching MOP26,750 ($3,346). Dealers' pay rose by 6.5% to MOP21,660, partly driven by longer working hours.

Job openings in Macau’s gaming sector surged 3.4 times during the quarter, totaling 498 vacancies as the industry continues to recover.

Macau's gross gaming revenue (GGR) for 2024 has so far reached MOP132.35 billion, a 36.7% increase compared to the same period last year. The figure represents about 61% of the government’s full-year forecast for the gaming sector.

For the first 11 days of August, Macau's GGR totaled MOP7.1 billion ($886 million), driven by strong demand in the mass gaming segment, as per a report from brokerage J.P. Morgan. The mass gaming revenue has recovered to about 110% of pre-pandemic levels, the report indicated.
