Sports betting giant DraftKings is set to expand its retail presence in the US market with the opening of a new retail sportsbook at the Lake of the Torches Resort Casino in Wisconsin.
The sports betting company has entered into a market access agreement with the Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians, which will allow it to offer retail sports betting at the casino, pending final licensure and regulatory approvals.
The launch, scheduled for Wednesday, August 28, will mark DraftKings' entry into its 28th U.S. state, in addition to operations in Washington, D.C., and Ontario, Canada.
The Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians recently secured an amendment to its gaming compact, enabling Class III gaming, including sports betting, within its tribal casinos.
This move positions the tribe as the seventh in Wisconsin to offer retail sports betting, although online sports betting remains illegal in the state, except for specific provisions like the Oneida tribe's on-site app.
“Lake of the Torches is excited to add retail sports betting to our property as a new gaming amenity for our valued guests to enjoy,” stated Bill Guelcher, CEO of Lake of the Torches Resort Casino.
“Our goal is to implement sports betting operations with a strong brand recognition and extremely high-quality product performance, and we’re honored to collaborate with DraftKings as an industry leader.”
Upon the sportsbook's launch, customers aged 21 and over will have access to six self-service kiosks and an over-the-counter betting window, located near the casino's sports bar.
“DraftKings has established a great relationship with the Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians, and we can’t wait to bring the DraftKings Sportsbook brand to Wisconsin,” said Michael Kibort, Vice President of Retail Sportsbooks at DraftKings.
“Providing a best-in-class customer experience has always been a top priority for our company, and the opportunity to deliver that experience to customers in yet another state is a proud moment for DraftKings.”
The Lake of the Torches Resort Casino boasts 800 slot machines, various table games, live entertainment, and a selection of dining options. DraftKings, founded in 2012, is one of the major players in the US sports entertainment and gaming industry.
