The Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas has appointed Stephen Thayer as its new general manager, the San Manuel Gaming and Hospitality Authority (SMGHA) announced on Monday. Thayer, previously the general manager of The STRAT, will officially assume his role next week, succeeding Cynthia Kiser Murphey, who stepped down earlier this summer.

Thayer brings a wealth of experience to his new position, having led major property enhancements and renovations at The STRAT. Prior to that, he served as a hospitality executive with Caesars Entertainment, working in both Las Vegas and Atlantic City.

In a statement, SMGHA Chairperson Latisha Prieto praised Thayer’s leadership and vision for the Palms. "His leadership style and professional accomplishments speak volumes about his ability to lead and innovate, and his enthusiasm for activating on our Tribal values at Palms makes him the ideal candidate to guide this wonderful property into the next chapter," Prieto said.

Thayer expressed his excitement about the opportunity, saying: "I am honored to be working with the SMGHA and Palms in continuing to make Palms the place to stay and play in Las Vegas. I look forward to collaborating with the Tribe and team members for an unmatched guest experience."

The Palms, purchased by San Manuel from Station Casinos in 2021, holds the distinction of being the first Las Vegas resort fully owned and operated by a Native American tribe.
